It's finally here! After months of deliberation and hard work, our team is excited to share this with you. We are so proud and excited to announce that our Hair Product Guide has been changed, both in format and in content. Brown Skin Women has always strived for inclusivity and we wanted to better reflect that with one of our most popular resources. The original product guide was created to quickly provide consumers with products that our founder, Carmen Veal Conway, personally approved. The Hair Product Guide quickly became a companion to the Clean and Simple Natural Hair Care course. It also gained popularity because it was a free resource for anyone who wanted to know which products had Brown Skin Women's stamp of approval.
Towards the end of 2023, Carmen decided that she wanted to make major changes to the guide. Not only to further its inclusivity but to serve as a learning tool for consumers. Whether you've downloaded our Hair Product Guide before or have never heard of it, the new and improved version can greatly improve your current natural hair care regimen. Keep reading to learn about the changes we've made!
Larger Range of Products
Our previous guide consisted of products that Carmen personally used on her clients at her salon and on her own hair. A majority of the products were plant-based with high-quality formulas that perform excellently on tight, curly hair. These products, when paired with the Clean and Simple hair care regimen, allowed for our curlfriends to have consistent, healthy hair. While we still love and recommend those products, we recognize that they are not accessible to everyone.
The high-quality formulas are often on the more expensive end of the price spectrum. Depending on the circumstances of our audience, a curlfriend may not want or be able to regularly purchase our favorite products. Carmen recognized that Brown Skin Women wasn't fully serving our community by only recommending our salon favorites, so she decided to expand the guide with more financially accessible products.
We're still striving to provide good recommendations to our community, so we've looked into each product in our guide. We consider the company's ethics, sustainability, philanthropic involvements, and ingredients before adding them to our guide. Brown Skin Women values using products that serve tight curls. Nearly all of our recommendations have a plant-based or water-soluble formula because they perform better on curls.
Note: Some products are less expensive for a reason. They may leave more residue on the hair or not perform as well due to the formula quality. This shouldn't discourage anyone from striving for healthy hair. In our guide, we include suggestions and modifications to your routine if you use products that may have lower-quality formulas.

Our team is passionate about natural hair care and we want to share that passion with our curlfriends.
